When I was growing up, we ate lots of good food, courtesy of my mother. But for outdoor cooking, dad was the grill master. So, the two together made a formidable team when it came to entertaining in the summertime.
One of my favorite meals was Mom’s marinated steak and mushrooms. This has become the standard and much-loved steak recipe in our house now too. It was our daughter’s 16thbirthday this week and this is what she asked for so I thought I would share it with you.
Mama Gabe’s Marinated Steak
1 C soy sauce
2/3 C sesame oil
2 cloves minced garlic
1 t ground ginger
6 thick-cut steaks, filet mignon, strip, or ribeye
8 -16oz. sliced mushrooms
Mix the first four ingredients. Use half the marinade to sauté the sliced mushrooms. Marinate steaks for at least 2 hours, more is better.
To round out the meal, we sautésliced onions for extra embellishment, make baked potatoes, and our favorite salad. It’s a fairly simple meal but a very special treat!
