Tips for Cut Flowers

If you are fortunate enough to receive flowers or if you cut them from your own garden, here are a few tips I learned (from Bloom Haus and mrshinesclass.com) to help them last longer.

  • Pour water into a clean vase.

  • Add floral preservative. If you don’t have any, you can make your own. See recipes below.

  • Remove all leaves that will go below the water line.

  • Cut 1/2 “ or more off of stems at a diagonal.

  • Keep flowers out of direct sunlight and away from heat or drafts.

  • Replenish water as needed. Replace it completely every couple of days.

1 T sugar

1/2 t chlorine bleach

1 quart warm water
